Hi, I'm looking to see if I can swap from a Shimano 11/34 to 12/36 9 speed cassette but keep my present rear mech which is an SLX long cage.

I have still got 3 rings on the front, don't know if this makes a difference either?

I realise a longer chain is needed too.

Anyone out there done this swap??

Cheers.

no issues, if there is (there won't) just give the B-Tension screw half a turn

Thought it would too, just a longer chain with the cassette should do it I reckon??

That's what my g/f's bike is set up with. Mid cage 9 spd Deore mech. 11 ( I think ) / 36 cassette.

You might find some conflicting info because Shimano swore blind their 9 speed mechs couldn't do 36T, because they wanted everyone to shift to 10 speed. Then they decided to release a 36T 9 speed mech and suddenly, it was fine!

What is it you're trying to do, though? You're losing more high end than you're gaining at the bottom, unless you do some cassette jiggerypokery and replace the 12T.

If you've got 3 at the front do you really need a 36 on the back?

I'm in my 50's and not particularly fit gents so losing topend for a little help at the bottom is perfectly acceptable! Cheers for all the help from you all!
