Anyone tried Open Pro UST's with non-UST tyres?

Not bothered about going tubeless on road but I'm concerned normal tyres might be too tight to be practical. Don't want to get stuck with a flat and no easy way to remove the tyre.

I've got Cosmic UST wheels with Vittoria Corsa G+ and I can just get them on using my fingers

Watching with interest op, as I'm thinking of rebuilding some wheels with those rims.

Was going to say I like to build my own, but I'll send you a message tomorrow, would be daft not to know what you are thinking price wise.

And thanks Steve.

No worries, to be honest they're no more difficult to get good supple clinchers on than the Fulcrum Quattros I had on the previous bike.

Don't use Open Pro but use DT Swiss R460DB which are tubeless with non tubeless Schwalbe Durano tyres and they are easy enough to get on.  I also run them tubeless and they went straight up and stayed up.

Standard tyres on tubeless rims are fine.  I wouldn't run standard road tyres tubeless though, not at 100psi, when they're not designed for use without a tube

Why not, what do you think will happen?  100psi with a tube is still 100psi.

I'm planning on sticking with tubes. I don't have a problem with punctures in the Conti Sport Contact tyres I use.

I think the theory about tubes helping prevent blow-offs is the force of the tube holds the tyre bead into the rim hook.

My Ksyrium ust wheels arrived in the box from Mavic with standard tubes and tyres fitted.

And if there is no rim hook?  I am not alone in using non tubeless tyres on a road tubeless setup with no issues at all.

🤷‍♂️ Dunno. I never tied it, that theory was just what I read somewhere. Probably on here TBH, and we all know, like Wikipedia, info on STW is 100% correct every time. 👍

I was just genuinely interested in what the reason was as not sure why a tube at 100psi would hold anything on more than just the air at 100psi without a tube.  Can really think why it would be different.
