I'm getting a bit bored of the scream of doom/teardown/greae routine with my Mavic freehub. I see theres a retrofit solution "hubdoctor" available in the states which converts it to a bearing cartridge instead.
Has anyone got any experience of these.... and is there anywhere to find them over here?
I've used their freehub bushing kit in the past, worked fine. It was a long time ago, but I think I just ordered it direct from the US via the eBay store and reasoned it was sight cheaper than buying a new Mavic feehub.
I'd check the availability of replacement bearings for the conversion before pulling the trigger though.
My Mavic freehub started screaming a while back, I searched for a solution and the one I found was use very thin mineral oil, eg Shimano brake fluid. I've done several thousand miles since then without the slightest noise.
Mineral oil worked for me too.
I've done the mineral oil thing guys, thats the strip down/grease I was referring too ๐
I fitted a hubdoctor kit because I had worn bushes. The symptom was side to side play at the cassette. It removed that play, and has been working well for a couple of years now. I'm fairly sure it was a ceramic bearings, and the bush is replaced with a bearing.
