Hi All

I'm after some advice, can these rims be used with discs, i'm looking to get some wheels built at Merlin and these these rims as specified as non disc, i'm sure i've seen them used with discs though?

Cheers
Nick

They can be used with discs.

No! They don't have the threaded bolt holes to fit a disc, you'll probably need to fit a hub to them using for that, I'd recomend using some spokes and nipples to stop them rolling away. ๐Ÿ˜‰

... anyway ... They are my 26" rim of choice, certainly in preference to EX729's (which by virtue of having no braking surface is designed/sold as 'disc' only rim (or you could go fixed on it of course, if you wanted to go all the way).

I very much doubt I can tell the difference at all, but I like to tell myself that I like the way the deeper braking surface of the EX721 holds the tyre bead (than does the EX729).

There's no issues with them being built as disc wheels, (assuming a decent build to start with of course).

I've ridden on them for years, if they are built right, they make for very strong wheels - not the lightest rim out there, but strong, true and reliable (in my experience anyway).

Kinda unrelated maybe, but I use the similarly profiled A719's as my 29er rims, and they are on disc'd wheels too.

sorry, but a braking surface has nothing to do with holding a tyre bead more securely, infact you'll find far more reports of DHers rolling (mainly maxxis) tyres off 721s than 729s. Out of the two I prefer the profile a 721 gives a DH tyre and the weight saving but the wider 729 is more secure and slightly stronger latterally, both ding and crack as easily as each other when you take them down the rockier tracks at speed IME.
