recommend which solution for a rim drilled for schreader (but for a rider who wants presta).
Ghetto?
rubber rim strip?
stand tape & separate valve?
Anyone tried it?
For the 729, any of the options you can do that will fit will end up with a Schraeder valve.
Stans do a rimstrip for DH rims (36-39mm wide) but with a Schraeder valve, then of course you have a 20" BMX inner tube, with a Schraeder valve. The only way you'd get a Presta would be to use the gaffer tape ghetto method, but that's less reliable than the others usually.
but it's currently inflated with a presta valve & inner tube, how is that different to ghetto (split inner tube method) ?
You gotta use a 20" inner tube for the ghetto method. Needs to be smaller than the rim, so that you stretch it over and then it's very tight, then when you slit it open it will stay in place.
Only problem is I've never come across a 20" tube with a Presta valve...
I have used the Mavic Presta adaptor in the past to good effect. Just thought, my sons bike is just like that at the moment. Sealing tape on the rim, Presta valve, adaptor.
There you go then, though I'd worry if a 1.25-1.5" inner tube is going to be wide enough when slit open to cover the width of a 729 rim. Personally, I'd just put up with a Schraeder valve, but if you're happy to give it a go for a fiver then let us know how it goes as I'm gonna be tubeless-ing a 729 soon.
