right, my girlfriend currently uses an old bike of mine to commute on. it's got some mavic 317 rims (told you it was old) and one of the eyelets has pulled through the rim splitting it a little. that spoke now has no real tension in it so the wheel is out of true. she doesn't mind about the wheel not being perfectly true as it's the rear and the brakes (v) are just set to pull more cable before contact now. is it really an issue or should i just leave it?

Personally i'd swap it, but i'm fussy with wheels. XC717 is the new 317 and should fit straight on, you'll probably get away with an XM317 too but the spoke lengths will be marginally different.

Time to replace it. I've had a 317 like that; once one goes, it puts more strain on the others, and you'll start to develop more cracking. Could be potentially dangerous, if spokes suddenly pulled through at speed.

A 717 will go straight on, no probs.
