If I strip my forks and clean it all out with paraffin, will it then damage the fork inners and/or seals? I've got carbon fibre lower legs. Well, my forks have - not me, so don't get excited Brant.

Not a mat's eng, but I'll give my opinion anyway - Depends on the material of the seals, however I suspect not - paraffin is just a petroleum based solvent and not a very strong solvent at that, if you were thinking of acetone or petrol I'd raise an eyebrow. Paraffin would seem, to me, one of the safest choices - most fork seals are generic shaft seals (you can pick them up for buttons at a bearing and seals place) and they generally include resistance to petroleum based fluids. It wont affect the carbon legs at all.

Soapy water and degreaser on anything that needs it would be a safer bet and will achieve just as good a clean.

I know, but I've got a nice parts washer I want to use (having been bought one because I was always using the kitchen sink to wash stuff out) and I don't want to fill it with soapy water since it'll be a pain for everything else.

Paraffin is just really light oil, kind of, isn't it?

you'll be fine on the carbon. don't know about the seals. Not into rubber.

Soapy water and degreaser can be as problematic as solvents, a) degreaser is solvent and b) soapy water (usually people use fairy) contains lots of salts and other stuff that aluminium doesnt like. Personally I'd stick with paraffin over water and degreaser!
