Anyone got one of the 140mm bikes they do? I'm not after some prejudiced 'sandal-wearer' comments - I do wear sandals and have a beard so that's not a problem.
I like the look of the Wolf Ridge and Rock Springs full sussers they did last year and seen all the rave reviews but I've not heard any owners talk about them.
Anyone? And what size did you get (and what height are you?).
Thanks.
Mate has got a 2008 Rock Spring (think thats whats its called). He down greaded (travel wise) from a quake. He loves it and says its nearly as good on the downs as the quake and much much better on the ups. He's always been a marin guy anyway, but I think this is the firs time I also thought his bike was any good.
I've rode it and my only bad comment would be the back end isn't super stiff, especailly when riding out the saddle.
Oh come on, someone must have one. And I at least expected some abuse. Very poor. Or have Marins now been fully replaced by On One as the STW favourite brand to be derided? ๐
I've got an 08 Wolf Ridge and love it. When you ride it it feels a lot lighter than it is (in a good way) and is easy on the ups. For me it ticked all the right boxes as it's pretty burly frame and has the Maxle rear axle with adds stiffness but also pedals up hill well and downhills great.
I did the Mega last year on it (well I tried before breaking my self) and loved it whilst I was able to ride!
The only issue I have with it is really only with the components rather than the bike. I changed the Air Pikes over for some coil Lyrics (was after coil Pikes but paid the same for the SH Lyrics) and run them on 140mm anyway. I also found the white rims a bit soft and dent easy if you aren't careful (similar to DT 5.1 rims though) and the Syncros finishing kit is a bit rubbish. Mine comes in at about 34 lbs with the Lyrics and stock parts. Looking to drop that down a bit when I swap the rims for some lighter Mavic ones.
Thanks both, very helpful.
Jackass, what size do you have and how tall are you etc.?
Sometimes use a Wolf Ridge II out on the trails, I found the riding position a bit unusual at first (compared to my regular Enduro ride) but it climbed OK and went down well. The bike I have used, is standard with the exception of the gears being swapped from the stock shimano for X9 which I must say works beautifully.
Oh...I have a beard but no sandles so I consider that I am not completely biased.
This is mine, its as good as the reviews on it, you wont be sorry

I've got a medium and it fits me fine (Im about 5'8) Normally I go for small frames but as I wanted something I could use all day (did a 24 hour enduro last year on it) I went something a bit bigger. They have good stand over height and the length of it is prefect.
ooo just found a piccy of it....

I've had a 2009 Attack trail for a month now, and it's brilliant. It excels up technical climbs and is a supremely confident descender. I'm also finding it very manouverable over dirt jumps too. Bit sluggish on tarmac and smooth flat sections, but hey, it's a bike designed for trail centres, not towpaths. Buy one, you'll love it ๐
I had a Mount Vision (original quad link) for years and currently ride a Whyte E-120 which some may say is a posh carbon fibre Marin!
I love them. The only "criticism" would be they do ride a bit tall - I quite like it though as I don't clip the pedals quite so much as on other bikes. They climb/decend fantastically well and the quad link system just works and requires very little maintenance (life time bearing warranty and great ATB-Sales after care too).
Oh, Medium (17.5") and 6 foot ๐
..oh yeah, I'm 5'8", 30" inside leg, got a medium after trying a small, fitted a 50mm stem and some mid-rise bars. (all this lo-rise, flat bar set-up is a load of bollox if you ask me, fine on a 200mm travel DH rig, but a 140mm techy trail bike needs a nimble set-up)
Thanks again.
Tracey, is it rude to ask a laydee about inner leg measurements and the size of her frame?
I'm 5 10 and deliberating the medium.
I had an 08 Attack Trail and a few mates have Wolf Ridges and Rock Springs. It replaced my VP-Free as I could pedal up hill, and it was almost as quick down.
Took it to the Alps last summer and was easily keeping up with a VP-Free and a 224 with DH forks fitted.
I had Pikes on it then, and changed to Lyriks when I came home.
Amazing bike. I'm just over 6' and went for a medium if it helps, but I do like a compact frameset.
Not at all, 5' 9" tall, 31"inside leg, frame is small, when I bought it I demoed a small and a medium and the small just felt right.
Its taken the place of my Enduro for most of my riding, only take the Enduro to Wharncliffe and the alps now, although I'll be riding the Enduro in the Mini DH at Chicksands at the end of the month
