[#373803]

Got my new wheels (Mavic 819's) and had a fiddle on Friday

3 tyres:

2.35 Maxxis Ignitor UST 720 grms on work mail box scales
2.35 (very)Schwalbe Fat Albert UST - 950 grms, but is about twice the size of the Ignitor
2.25 Schwalbe Nobby Nic - non UST - 550grms

so I reckon the Ignitor with a bit of sealant is about the same weight as the Nobby Nic with a tube, but a hell of a lot tougher side walls. Albert obviously heavier - more Alps suited

now to try pumping them up

Fat Albert - pump pump pump blimey it's up, as easy as with a tube. Admittedly, had been on the wheel with a tube before, so probaly well beddeed. B*stard to get on though (and I'm used to Motor Bike tyres...........) wouldn't like to have to fix it in the rain on the trail though

Ignitor - pump pump pump pump - nothing happening. Squeeze tyre to rim around valve. Blimey it's up.

Nobby Nic - now I fail to see how this would ever seal. Bit like using a bin bag as a condom............... gaps like the grand canyon all around. I didn't try with sealant, but can't see how this would have sorted it

so I think it is UST tyres only for me

Same here, i am well pleased.Got new mavics ust wheels on thurs and some ust nevegals. Was a bit apprehensive about it all, fitting etc.
Put tyres on no probs, sealed first time with track pump and that was that, easy!
Been out three times since and no problems at all and havent lost any air. ๐Ÿ˜€

sometimes once you have used a tube in a tyre it seems to stretch and becomes less easy to get to seal - could be your problem with the Nobby Nic? Harder they are to get on the rim the better / easier they seem to seal. I've had a tyre pop off which was loose to go on the rim and hard to get up, I'm pretty weary of them now if they seem too loose!

yeah - that is quite possibly true. Plus I had to have a real go at it to get it off a DT Swiss rim........
