Hi all,me and a mate who is a bit handy with electronics are thinking of having a go at making our own led lights,we are going to get all the gear before designing a light unit(my job),how are these components for starters?

And does anyone have any tips for reflectors.
just a link back to a old thread would be handy
cheers
Well your driver is only good for half the rated power of the LED?
Better spec stuff here http://www.cutter.com.au/products.php?cat=LED+Kits
& plenty of 'how to's' here http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=86
Cheers lads will view and digest.
I modded a tesco Torch with DX 2800ma Constant current P7 driver , a P7 LED and 4 unprotected 18650s soldered into a 4 pack. Used my DX cycle light charger. The batteries arnt balanced so may not last long and light pattern is a bit horrid.

All that for about 20 quid so If you get a cheap lense solution and some lind of balace/ protection circuit for the cells you can have a nice bright light. (2 to 3 hours run)
NB I do wish I just bought another "DX cycle light"
NB Taking the heat away can be a prob. I improvised a nice sink inside the unit and applied loads of compound but body needs some fins to up the surface area as it gets jolly hot when static...
add a few quid for connectors and a swicch plus 8 quid for the original tescos light...Plus a helmet mount..
wish I hadnt worked this out.looking more like 40 quid now!
candlepowerforums.com ... some of them can be a bit of an ar$e, but plenty of good knowledge.
If you want some batteries, have a chat with Smudge on here, and while Trout makes his own lights for sale, and damned good they are, i'm quite sure he's happy to chat about led/lens solutions.
Personally, i'm a bit bored of the P7 and my next light will feature a few of the new XPG LED's with an appropriate driver (maxflex? (taskled.com)) along with all manner of other things.
enjoy 😉
or, you could plump for the bastid ... www.dealextreme.com ... their p7 is dirt cheap!
