Just got a boxfresh pair of new '09 Magura Thors, they're not on the bike yet and am just have a fiddle with them in the lounge. When compressing the forks, whilst adjusting the FCR the travel only drops about 10mm, rather than 40mm. Anyone else had the same problem?

Had a Google and followed the advice on the last post here: Magura forum and still no joy

Cheers, Mike

Push them down harder and release the leaver, you may struggle without them on the bike though. I havent fitted the remote on mine, just lean over the bars weighting the forks and pull on the wheel to compress them fully. Obviously not when riding!

I can compress them now to roughly 25mm away from max travel, release and they virtually come back all the way, bar about 10mm if you know what I mean?!

you have to put quite a bit of weight through them to make them compress fully

Let all the air out, then pump back up. You need to open the FCR every 3rd pump though to equalise pressure in the positive and negative air chambers. Leave it open for a few seconds too as it takes a while for the air to transfer (you can hear it hissing).

Likewise when you have them pumped back up, dont just open the FCR push and let go. It takes a couple of seconds for the air to transfer and to change the height.

Lastly they will never just sit 40mm lower without load on them. If you are on the bike with them loaded however and adjust them then the static point WILL be 40mm lower.

And they are infinately adjustable anywhere between 100-140mm.

Hmmm...Thanks for that, can't hear any air with the FCR open. Will have another go later, when I've more patience!

I was mildy put off for the same reason when I first got mine. They are fine though in use.

Have a read on the Magura forum as well for more details on what Ive said if you can be bothered.

Many people find Maguras too linear specially when braking hard.

Open the top of the air chamber and put around 5mm of fork oil in there and they become much more progressive but still get full travel and stay supple worked a treat on my Durins.

It has to be said, I've never used to travel reduction. I've taken off the bar mount. If I'm climbing I just turn off the compression damping which generally makes the fork nice and active and grippy.

sorry for dragging up the thread again but i am looking at getting the Thors from On-One.

is it possible to run these forks without any of the remote controls and just operate the knobs manually on top of the forks to lock them out and reduce the travel when climbing?

Not got them myself, but fairly sure that the answer to your question is yes - the review in the most recent ST said that's what they ended up doing rather than using the remote.

the travel adjust knob is a bit fiddly to grip, I've just replaced the cable and outer to mine and its a lot better.
I use the adjust quite a bit as my frame is designed for 100mm forks, so I pop them out for steep descents to slacken the geometry up. Lovely

Have always run mine without the cables and remotes. Works fine. Can still use both adjustments on the fly with practice. Sold the remote on BR to get a few quid back too!!

If you remove the o-ring from the air valve cap, it makes the FCR lever/cable work much snapier which in turn makes the lock down process easier.

If that make sense...

Going to fit mine tomorrow, I'd better print out this post as an assist - or has anyone a better link?

2010 ones if that makes any difference?

Or just follow the manual. Everything you need to know is in there, including what is written here.
