So just booked some accommodation up in this general area for 3 days cycling. Planning something at Machynlleth day 1 / Antur uplift day 2 / Llandegla day 3.

I’ve never been to Mach - a mate has cycled round there before. How hard is Mach 3 - particularly fitness wise? Looks like 30km but can’t find how many metres of climbing it is. Mate is suggesting riding that and then maybe Climachx same day but that sounds a bit brutal to me - wondering if Mach 3 then Mach 1 might be a slightly easier day. Don’t want to entirely ruin my legs for Antur the following day.

Also tyres - is Mach quite hard on them - I’ve seen mention is slate. At the moment I have an exo dhf on the front which should be ok, but a grid Slaughter 2.6” on the rear with a Rimpact in. Is that going to survive?

Last time I did Antur I stuck on a Trailboss in Tough / Fast which I could do again if needed. Just would prefer to avoid the Rimpact fight if I don’t need to take that on!

It's years since I rode Mach3 but it's not really a trail centre type of trail its more of a waymarked XC on existing RoW.

I like that kind of riding but it's not everyone's taste.

Yeah that’s ok - whenever we do these 3 day weekends we usually try to do natural / uplift / trailcentre where possible.

Last year we did off piste FOD, uplift BMCC, pedal up BPW.

Year before it was CyB, Antur, Snowden etc.

Makes it a nice mix of all sorts of trails 🥰

I reckon if you took a random pick of the off piste in dyfi forest on trailforks you’d feel you had a better ride by the sound of it

Otherwise perhaps Cadir idris and don’t miss the extra grassy descent at the end

I think my mate looked at Cadir and decided it would be too much pushing / hike a bike on the way up and wrote that one off.

My Trailforks is the free one and I’ve got it selected on FOD right now.

We’re looking for a natural route rather than winch and plummet steep tech on this day pretty much. Will be up and down Antur the following day.

It’s suprising just how much of cadir is rideable going up. All the grassy rutted middle bit, push the first set of screes then rideable to the shoulder where it flattens then carry the last bit. There’s a side path just off the top that skirts the short bit of unridable on the main bridleway down. Took my mum (ebike) and sister up not long ago and they love it. I’ll concede its no ranger/telegraph valley though

If you’re at llandegla you might consider the more natural mast/worlds end descents out the back?

I’m in the same boat for a natural feeling Ride in north Wales Tbf. Pont scethin I’ve not ridden for ten years and wasn’t all that technical then. I’m told motorbikes have rutted it to hell of late

Llyn colwyd/llyn Crafnant from capel curig (obviously a bit far from Machynlleth) has some nice bits but you’l you’d need to borrow the path by the water channel to avoid the bog and the woods to chop half the road descent off

Anyone know What the Vgraphics loop over to dylife/staylittle is like compared to the Mach’s? I know it grades descents as red/blue but told it’s no tasty tech loop

Mach 3 is a big climb but worth it if the weather is good . Mach 2 is a bit easier and climachx could be done the same day.

Lots and lots of off piste in and around the climachx

Isn’t it possible to link the Mach trails with Nant-yr-Arian?
That’d be a good day out.

I did Scethin a couple of weeks back for the first time. Rocky (bedrock and loose), yes but not rutted. Definitely a good option for a shorter ride but the ascents are fairly grassy so take that into consideration if it’s been wet.
