I have been bought a Bonty BITS for Christmas and need to get my SFN out, can I wack it down my Lyrik Ultimate RC2 steerer or is it tapered?

Whack away, I say.

The taper is on the outside surface of the steerer tube, not the inside, and assuming you are whacking it down towards the axle as you say, it fly out without too much issue.

Metal top cap on top. Steel bolt with greased threads cranked down till the centre pops out then prise the two plates out with a screwdriver.

I've always done the above method rather than hammering it all the way down the steerer, I've even drilled one out, it was my very first one back in the day and the installation didn't go well in a thick walled alloy steerer.

I also got a BITS for Christmas and just fitted it to a SID.

Drill out the middle of the sfn then whack the remaining steel wings with a screw driver to rotate it 90°, and pop them out the top. I don't like the idea of pulling it up because the wings are designed to dig in and didn't want to cause damage to the aluminium steerer.

My one up EDC fitting tool actually come with a sfn removal tool. The other option is drill the core out and then remove the flanges with a screwdriver and plyers.
