[Closed] Loud cracking noise from pedals

Road bike with Look Keo Max has been giving out some really unpleasant noises from the left hand pedal/crank. I'm going to stick some spares on tomorrow to see if it's the BB but if it's the Looks are they worth rebuilding or just binning given I'd need to buy a special tool to take them apart?

Do you have any other pedals ???? Just to swap over and see if the unpleasant noises go away before pulling them apart.. also if you have some backup pedals it's less rush to try and get them back together if you need to find bearings or such

I'd say that's almost cetainly the pedal bearing.

As advised above try swapping some other pedals, even mountain biking ones if that's all you've got, to trouble shoot.

You are having some problem with road biking of Look Keo Max bike. I suggest you the following steps :

At first check out the tightness of pedals.

Then temporarily swap pedals for another pair and see if noise goes away. If so you know what the problem is.

Check tightness of cranks and, if yours has the dreaded Shimano lock tab, make sure it's in position.

Check tightness of BB.

Lastly, try another BB. A good Shimano replacement should cost only about £15.

I've had bearings fail in Keos before. You can often feel them move if you give the pedal body a wiggle.

Not pedals then (put on spare pedals, cracking noise still present). BB is my next guess.
