nixie - take them for a walk in the woods and warn them about the ghosts that rattle around shining bright lights.
I remember the last time I had to babysit someone elses child on halloween I told them a nice ghost based bedtime story. At the end they looked a bit worried but the big brother (about 7) said that ghosts don't exist which seemd to reassure the little sister. Apparently I should have left it at that rather than saying "They do exist and they have metal teeth!"
They have now moved to New Zealand
