Looking to buy a new 'do anything' hardtail - which would you go for?

Hi all, new member here!

I'm in the market for a new 'do anything' (within reason) hardtail for my partner. Shes a bit on the small size so needs to be 27.5 wheels. Been biking for around 3 years now and going from an entry level vitus nucleus vr to something a bit more capable. She can do red runs and most natural stuff we come across so the current bike is holding her back somewhat. We do love a bit of xc as well as some knarly descents so not looking for anything too hardcore.

Looks to be some good deals on at the moment - presumably clearing out stock for the new season.

I've narrowed it down to these two, both with close to 40% off RRP :

Nukeproof scout comp

Ragley blue pig

Given the choice which would you go for? Or are there other bargains to be had?

Cheers

Got a Big Wig which is pretty much a 29er Blue Pig I believe. Very capable bike and fine to potter about on as well as throw it as some steeper stuff. Done some big rides on it too and it was mostly my fitness which finished me off, not the bike. You can also upgrade the damper on the Yari for not a lot of money and have a fork which is more than good enough for 99% of the population.

Thanks both - i was warming towards the ragley as not heard a bad thing about them.

Pretty big saving on this big wig which i may have to get for myself :

paintjob is a bit marmite though and can't make my mind up on it. What colour is yours turbo?

Blue Pig every time. I built a Piglet last year and it's ace. Started with 2.3s but now it's on 2.8s, which has dulled it a little. I'll probably go 2.4s and madden it up a bit again!

~£200more, but for that you get GX ASX, Pike Select, 150mm dropper, and some truly awful tires. If I didn't already have one of the Original orange (mk3?) ones with GX and 35's, I'd definitely be tempted by that. Either that or wait for another sale on the Wrecker or Vandal.

Abso-bloody-lutely love my Blue Pig 😎 that colour too.

I bought as frame only, built up with most of the bits from my old hardtail. A smattering of red Hope bits (goes well with the bluey grey) 2.8/2.6 tyres.
It was great for a weekend in Afan, done a bunch of 40-50km xc rides on it, and taken off done sweet jumps 😉

Thanks for all the suggestions guys - gonna think on it over the weekend but likely to pull the trigger on the ragley, for her anyway.

I may be interested in that On-One Scandal - seems like a lot of bike for the money. Never heard of Planet X before but seems they are a local to me bike builder. Those tyres do look horrendous though!

Planet X AKA On One have been around for years, I got my first bike from then in 2008.

I've a Scandal which I use for SC, trails & bike-packing - rides well, take a look on their website as can be had for £999.

I’m not in the market for a new frame and I ride big wheels, but if I was I wouldn’t look any further than the big wig frame only for £329 on CRC at the moment…

I'd go for the Scout - slightly better handling & geometry.
