Hey guys,

My birthday is coming up on the 25th September and after doing absolutely bugger all on my birthdays for about 7 years, I've gotten into MTB this year and decided I've found something worth celebrating.

I'm looking for a place I can take my hardtail trail bike (on-one parkwood) to shred up some trails.

I was hoping there is a bike park around the south/south-east of England within driving distance of Surrey (50-75 miles tops?) that I could handle on my hardtail. I'm by no means a great rider but I am willing to give it my absolute best to have fun.

Thanks for taking the time to read and I hope someone can get me ripping on my birthday!

Where do you normally ride (so we don't suggest there) ? Do you prefer man made trails, or natural or do you want a mix.

I normally ride around the surrey hills (leigh hill, holmbury and pitch) and I've only been riding MTB again for about 6 months so really everywhere is new to me.

As far as man-made or natural, I really don't mind, I want to experience all of it!

Just checked out Swinley Forest, can't believe that's so close and I had no idea about it. Definitely one I'm going to check out!

Still up for other suggestions!

Queen Elizabeth Country Park in Hampshire and Bedgebury Forest in Kent are also options for man-made.

For natural, try the Devil's Punchbowl at Hindhead and Black Down south of Haslemere - still part of the Surrey Hills AONB although some distance west of Pitch Hill.

Bear in mind that some areas are chalk based and less fun in the wet. That would include the Chilts and QEP although can't comment on the newest trails.

For something different you could enter the Gorrick trailtrax (orienteering on a bike thing) on 20 September at Cheriton http://www.gorrick.com/trailtrax/

There's one this Sunday too, from Hambledon just south of Godalming. See the Gorrick link natrix posted. Start/finish at a great countryside pub, as they all do!

I'll be there, looking forward to it ๐Ÿ™‚

Plenty of brilliant suggestions as always from the singletrackworld users!

Many thanks guys, I'm sure I'm gonna have an awesome birthday!

Those TrailTrax events look awesome as well, never heard of them before and I'm definitely going to be checking those out!

Its worth knowing that Woburn and Chick Sands are in that range (I think). They hold up well year round

In dry conditions the Chilterns are great for XC type rides
