For a kids bike - square taper ok. Is it just the suntour jr or any other ideas? eBay is not pulling up much choice 😢

Have you checked spa cycles and SJS?

Seems like there's less choice these days. Recently went for sram gx dub for my wife's new bike.

The Suntour XCR Jr is a pretty reasonable crank though, I'm very happy with the two that my kids are riding. Normal BCD so easy to get narrow/wide chainring and a bash on the outer (mainly as a chain guard).

4-bolt bmx cranks would do it too. I don't have a link though.

165 is short adult crank really - not sure that googling Child's crankset will help much

Googling 165mm crankset shows loads. Not sure about finding out the BCD on all of them though

You'll struggle to get a NW in 30t that isn't direct mount. I think only SRAM 94BCD will take that

My 9 year old uses a Thorn one from SJS and a 30t Superstar narrow wide.

XT M8000 comes in 165mm and you can also get an M8000 30t chainring

Similarly I've bought two in the last year or so - first was a Zee from SJS, second an XT8000 from FB Marketplace, as the Zee's are available anymore from SJS. Both were £60-ish quid. Not super cheap, but rings, BBs etc are more likely in your parts bin than square taper/old ring standards.

If time is on your side I'd suggest keeping an eye on ebay, FB etc for a suitable 165mm. Otherwise I think the mainstream new options are XT or SRAM GX. Square taper is SJS or Spa cycles.

Superstar do a 104 bcd 30t narrow wide chainring.

I went for a SRAM GX 155, bit over enginered, but 165mm just seemed too long.

I think 30t is max too. I am sure there is a 94mm BCD on the GX on my child's bike and the chain is very close to the spider arm ends.

It’s a standard XT length and ring size. Got one on my bike. Shouldnt be any difficulty sourcing one at all.
