[Closed] Longest Non-stop Off-road Climbs in the Lakes?

I am looking for a long, non-stop climb of 5 miles or more in the Lakes. The High street climb looks good but I wondering if there are any gates. Does anyone know the climb?

I want to do a Functional Threshold Power test so I need 20 mins of non-stop riding.

Cheers
Rich

Not better off with something like the road climb up Great Dun Fell? One gate halfway up, iirc.

If not, the gravel climb from Garrigil to Greg's Hut on Cross Fell, but again I remember one gate.

I think there are Dales climbs better suited to your requirements, e.g Cam High Road.

If you are capable of doing 15mph average up high street off road then why not just get your race team to fly you out to the alps or somewhere.

That's a simply phenomenal pace.

Isn't it?

But to answer your question, if you go from pooley bridge then I think there is indeed a gate where it opens out onto the moor
But then the bit before is tarmac anyway. If you start after the gate then 20 minutes would take you across the flat bit by the cockpit, so no use either.
If you start at the cockpit then you might get 20 mins up hill from there, but there was a steep bit I couldn't ride so that may mess thing up.

Not sure about heading north up HS from the Troutbeck side.

There are no 5 mile continuous offroad climbs in the lakes that you can do in 20 minutes so you may as well look for shorter ones.

Yeah, forget the 5 mile bit! The Garburn Pass from Troutbeck should do you. There’s a gate near the bottom and a gate near the top but it’ll probably take you 20 mins to get between the two. I’m in the top 20 on the Strava segment below out of 596 and that’s how long it takes me! https://www.strava.com/segments/1207084

Walna Scar from Natty Bridge will take you at least 20 minutes, is all rideable in theory (use the FP instead of the BW around the boggy bit) and IIRC, has no gates. Sections of it will put you nicely into the red. 🙂

Thanks for the replies. Slightly naive question. I should have just asked if there are any 20 mins climbs at a good pace!

It was that climb that I was thinking about initially but I remembered the 2 gates. I did the climb in 24 mins (13th on Strava?) so wasn't sure the time between the gates would be long enough.

The climb between the two gates on Garburn is too short for your purposes. Even I managed it in 15 minutes...

Yep, too short. Checked my last Strava in October and definitely not long enough.

Will try High Street and cross fingers.

Kirkstone pass (road) from Windermere is prob 25 mins if you're a strong climber.
Not too steep either which is what you want for a FTP estimate.

Dodd near Keswick would give a 20 minute climb from the road to the summit.

I'd still suggest doing this on the road though. Hartside would be my choice. Very consistent gradient all the way up and plenty long enough.

Good suggestion, thanks. I have ridden that before come to think of it. It was a merciless climb.

Is there a reason you have to do it offroad? To hold the same power for 20 minutes isnt easy and and I would have thought on-road would have reduced some of the variables so ou can pace better?

You are right but I’ve only got one ride this week, and don’t want to be on the road.
