[Closed] London recommendations for my (60 yrs old) parents

A walk on Hampstead Heath, cup of tea at Kenwood House, lunch in the "village" - try The Holly Bush. Very sedate as long as done in daylight hours. A truly lovely part of the world.

Cable car over the docks. It's part of the transport network so you can get on with an oyster card for about £5

Some things my parents have enjoyed on trips to Town.

The National, National Portrait and Tate galleries
Sushi in the food hall at Harrods. Almost like theatre

Down to Greenwich by boat.Do the market, or up the hill to the Royal Observatory.

My parents (both 65) love visit to Ronnie Scotts.

Oh, and the Number 11 bus. Like a tourist bus, but without the annoying commentary!

Not all 60 year olds are the same. Some are the same as when they were 25 and others wear slippers and cardigans.

Another vote for the ferry to Greenwich and a wander around.

One has to ask....Budget?

For West End shows; Book of Mormon is widely regarded and a little bit of the road less travelled than the usual. There are also very cheap but good tickets to Urinetown.

For hotels, i'd recommend something a little further out if cheaper. Ealing Common is 15min by Piccadilly line to the centre and should be a lot cheaper than the west end.

I'd also recommend a trip to Hampton Court if they like history.

What do they enjoy?
Outdoors - walk linking the parks - Battersea, St James, Hyde. London isn't that big.

Museums? National Portrait Gallery, Tate (or Tate Modern). Victoria and Albert.

Shopping? Covent Garden. Harrods.

Eating? Lunch at a michelin starred restaurant like Helen Darozzze or Ducasse need not be expensive (£50/head with wine), dinner always is!

Views? Greenwich hill is the best view of london. Hampstead Heath another.

It does depend on what interests them - there's a superb gardens museum in Lambeth, for example.

Mid budget hotel I guess, step up from Travelodge / Premier Inn, but not too spendy ....

We stopped at Premier Inn County Hall last week. Good budget hotel and about 100m from the London eye. We found the location ideal.

@PMK - That Premier Inn looks good, I might stay there if I ever venture down to the Capital, great location, thanks.

If they are centrally based, walking won't be a issue for them.

Greenwich topping the list of places to go !

Greenwich river cruise is good but does get cold on the water for an hour.

There are river boat restaurants which are quite touristy and in good locations.

It depends a bit on how mobile they are. I'd keep it all pretty central.

Royal Academy has some great exhibitions and is not too big, check in advance.
Ronnie Scotts already mentioned is a great spot for jazz, also central.
The South bank is great in the summer for a walk, this also leads to vinopolis (previously mentioned which is a wine experience)
Shakespeare's Globe is also in the area but you probably want seats if your folks are 60 but thye might prefer a different show.

Restaurants - what do they like? there is literally anything from Ethiopian Goat curry to Indian / French fusion to Argentinian steak houses to michelin stars.

Hotels - check out lastminute.com secret hotels. I do that now when taking the missus out and you can get a great deal on 4 or 5 star hotels (<£100 for 2 people including breakfast).

Kew Gardens

Book the London Eye ,Breakfast/Lunch/cream tea at the Wolseley on Piccadilly - It can pleasant walk from the Eye to Piccadilly.
The Jersey Boys was a massive hit with my Mother.

A walk around outside the Tower of London is well worth it at the minute - the poppies are just amazing.

Greenwich is great as has been mentioned & getting there by boat the best way to go.
