The light created by the new generation headlamp is emitted by laser diodes and a fluorescent phosphor material. It is described as being monochromatic, meaning the light waves possess the same length.
There's something odd about that, because that's how you make white LEDs - you have a bright LED (one wavelength) pumping a phosphor layer which then emits white light (multiple wavelengths).
