Mine went and i took it to my lbs.

Lbs sent it back to i think the uk distributor....seems like the cable was lose in the back, so they replaced the bulb and fixed the cable FOC.

I've head other stories of L&M replacing the whole unit with a seca as they've discontinued the ARC.

I need a replacement charger if you choose to not get it repaired.

There are 2 components, the bulb and the ballast in there. Mine stopped working a few months ago and I did the leg work to find all this out as I wasn't going pay the huge amounts (I forget exactly but >£150 for bulb and ballast - and you will not know which you need until you replace them)the distributer wanted.

I eventually bought the parts from a bloke on this thread who had bought more than he needed from a component manufacturer called Welch Allyn in the states who supply the parts to L&M but have a minimum order charge so bought more than he needed. A bit of soldering to do for the ballast but nothing most people couldn't handle. There is talk on the thread of replacing parts with a higher lumen pair of components which I might have done if it had not worked out so costly with the postage and minimum order charge.

In the end only my ballast needed changing so I now have a spare bulb for when mine pops its clogs. It cost me £45 all up.

If your out of warranty madison will more than likely offer you the seca head unit with a small discount. The discount is crap, think it was about 5 or 10%. I could buy a whole light system online for the same price therefore meaning I would 2 batteries and charges for the same outlay.

Thanks guys,

I did a bit of testing before work this morning and pulled the bulb out of the ballast. I used a multi-meter and got no voltage out of the two sockets in the top of the ballast. Hopefully this means that just the ballast has gone which is cheaper...

Convert,
Thanks for the link, it's an old thread, both worth a go I suppose.

Regards,

Jim

My Arc head which is almost split new (used about 6 times)failed prior to the first outing in 2009. anc is perfectly correct about the solution from Maddison ie buy a new head @ a 10% discount since they don't do repairs any more. For another £40 CRC will sell a Seca head, LiIon battery and a chearger. Where's the deal in that ?

If you need a minimum order to buy the lamps / ballasts from Welch Allyn then I would be interested in splitting an order.

Hi George,

I've just won a ballast off eBay and will give that a try. I am not hope though! - Will go for splitting a minimum order with you if it doesn't work.

3 bulbs abd 2 ballasts get you to about £110 I think.

I need one too if that helps. I had the same issue with a US supplier. They didn't have a minimum order but did say that it wouldn't be economical to courier one bulb to the UK.

sharki I have a multi charger for the Arc, decided to def mine off after the head unit broke after a crash and Madison & Light and Motion were woeful in terms of sorting something out.
