My Ultegra Di2 groupset is over 5 years old now, bought with a new bike at the start of 2015.
The rear mech was replaced last year, and one of the wires needed changing from junction box to shifter... cassettes and chains replaced regularly like normal.
But my worst nightmare would be for one of the shifters or the front mech to go pop halfway through a big training spin or race.
Anyone any insights? Do they just keep going?
Far less moving parts to go wrong than a conventional STI lever unit. I know of a few people still running original 10spd Ultegra Di2 FWIW. I expect mechs to wear out in use as you would any other Shimano rear mechs with time, but I wouldn't worry unduly about any of the other parts aside from the battery...
Oh yes I forgot about that, the battery has been replaced once or twice over the years - was just no longer holding a charge well, that kind of thing.
I'm about the same as you. Rear mech that was damaged anyway and a battery under warranty (when they had the issue with them failing).
Mines heavily used, racing and riding in all weather probably done 40k over the 5 years I've had it and been flown a handful of times.
Mechanical just keeps going, it gets sloppy where things wear so I see no reason di2 wouldn't be ok. The chances of serious mechanical are not really any different. I've broken a cable shifter on the 3 peaks. I've snapped cables in the middle of nowhere.
I’ve got 11 speed Di2 on one bike and 10 speed on another. The 11 speed components are readily available but the 10 speed is now obsolete. The shifters & battery are interchangeable but the derailleurs are unique and not interchangeable. The FD seems reasonably well protected but the rear is very prone to damage - apart from any wear. They are now like hens teeth & go for about £150+ on eBay even 2nd hand. Unfortunately upgrading to 10 speed is not straight forward with expensive wheels & the rear cannot take an 11 speed freewheel body.
My Ultegra 6870 set up is from 2015. It had a new battery at the end of 2019 as the original one wouldn't hold a charge. The rest of the Di2 bits keep working fine and it's had some decent use in the last 5 years.

Sounds about the same as me. I’m away for some or a large part of the winter but during the year I’d probably get 5-9k on it.
Maybe it’s just that we’re all in similar positions then!
To John - Not sure if mine is 10 or 11 speed actually, I’ll have to check.
So mine is 11 speed.
And I speak in kilometres 😉
I have 11sp Di2 from 2016, which until last year was totally faultless. I had to change the battery last autumn, but despite that it doesn't seem to hold charge - twice now I've been stuck singlespeeding my commute home. I love Di2, but not so much now it's starting to become a little unreliable! As it's not the battery, any reasons why it's not holding charge (or draining in a few days?)
One of the components will be draining it. You can check which one with an sm-pce02 or by a process of elimination.
