Little bit of advise please. Just taken delivery of one of these so I'd thought I'd give it a try out on the road bike tyres. Starts off ok but by about 50psi it starts to back feed thro the pump and pushes the handle up. By 80 psi I'm struggling to push the handle down and by 90 psi it become virtually impossible even leaning over the pump and using all by body weight. Also when the handle pushes up the pressure drops I guess because it's loosing the volume of air when the handle is extended. Never had this issue with any other track pump, surely that can't be right. Anybody else had this problem or is it normal with Lezyne pumps
sounds very much like it's not actually opening the valve to the tube and the pressure is in the pump only. i'd check the valve in the tube moves. if in doubt, let all the air out of the tube and see if it pumps at all.
It is pumping air into the tube......just wondering if there is a non return valve in the system which is failing
Track pumps usually have a non-return valve at the bottom of the barrel, sounds like your's is sticking / something holding it open. Depends on whether you're inclined to take it apart or simply return for a replacement. I've experienced problems with water condensate inside pumps freezing in cold temperatures creating the same problem.
Is it possibly just higher volume than you're used to? A high volume pump is harder to pump just because it's pushing more air per stroke. (I literally lift myself off my feet to work my mountain morph).
Shouldn't normally be bouncing back like that though. Lezyne are universally overpriced, overhyped, beautifully made, attractive, average pumps though.
mine does that...sometimes, usually presta valve is sticking...press it a few times to expel air, works for me.
Read about pushing the valve earlier so tried that. Unfortunately didn't make any difference.
Well used to pumping tyres up to 100psi with no problems. Bearing in mind this supposedly pumps to 220psi I failed to reach 100psi so I'm thinking its ****ed...
Unless it's serviceable it looks like it's going back tomorrow.
Any recommendations for a nice digital track pump
You've not been sent an overdrive version of the Lezyne pump in error that only is intended to go to 60 psi?
Apologies for the question. Just ordered one and was looking for a high volume low max pressure one, but found the array of their pumps is quite bewildering.
Not as far as I know
That's not normal.
I have one, it's worked fine for years on road and MTB tyres, without any blowback feature.
Took the barrel off today and it's very easy to blow back thro the valve...also found shards of metal stuck in the grease on the underside of the plunger
Think I've fixed it now.. Took the barrel off & the base was full of swarf. One of these bits of swarf had lodged itself in the non-return valve & hence air was getting back into the barrel
