as above my lefty 29er bottom bracket is screeching. i guess the latest bb is 8 months old, previous lasted 12 months.
considering putting a better bottom bracket in like a hope, has anyone done it, which one to buy, or what measurements do i consider, and will the adaptor fit.

I don't think I have ever had a bb last more than 12 months be it from hope, sram or whoever. I'd just spend £30 on a sram item and replace it in another year. Easy enough to DIY.
