I've just got a i900 for my Heckler and will be advertising the Thomson Elite shortly WTS. The Thomson was a 'layback' post and by changing it, will obviously cramp my cockpit a bit by shortening the reach distance. Do i need to compensate for this loss by extending my stem (currently running a 50mm 4X and like the feel of it TBH) and what sort of effect will this have on the bike's handling?

Bearing in mind that i am out of the saddle for the vast majority of descents anyway.
