I have an iPad and an android phone.

Can it be done?

It's the 800 so no Bluetooth or wifi

It is supports USB OTG then possibly.

As it turns out I can copy info onto my work machine and then upload the file. It appears to be locked down copying data from it not too it.

USB OTG: it allows you to connect a device (eg your Garmin) to your phone so you can access the files on it. If your phone supports OTG(On The Go) then it works quite well. You can buy a cable off eBay for £5.00 or less.

I do it with my android tablet by always saving my data to the SD card in the Garmin, then putting the card in my tab, and uploading it to STRAVA from there.
