[Closed] Lapierre Zesty 2010 - Why do my 140mm travel forks measure 150mm?

Just bought a new set of 2014 140mm Fox FIT CTD forks and measured the distance on the anodised stanchions and it measures 140mm.

Just checked the Fox float RL forks that came with my bike and even though they are 140mm travel they measure 150mm - I am confused! Can anyone explain this?

In addition to this the axel to crown distance on my old forks measures 520mm and an my new forks it measures 504mm so I was also wondering how easy it was to add in a spacer?

Thanks for your help.

James

Have you let all the air out and measured the actual travel?

No haven't tried that - just checked that they had the same pressure in before hand.

My 140mm 2012 RLC forks have almost 150mm showing. But if I let all the air out that last 10mm is still showing, so they are 140mm and apparently it's quite normal (based on a thread I started on the very same issue and a bit of googling).

Roverpig - thanks for the email.

I will check this shortly. The main problem I have is that I thought I was buying a like-for-like 32 mm fork but actually the axle to crown distance is 10 - 15mm taller on my old forks which will cause my steerer angle to drop 0.5 of a degree. I know we are not talking a great difference but I wouldn;t have expected for one minute that it was going to have changed that much as this information doesn;t seem advertised very much on Fox's website.
