I’ve got a 2015 Lapierre Zesty AM 827 on which after 18 months, I can no longer ignore the play in SRAM GXP bottom bracket. Crankset is SRAM X01

So looking to install a Hope press fit bottom bracket, but there seems to be a lot of confusion on whether adapters are required, whether it’s BB30 or not.. I’ve measured the frame at the bottom bracket and it’s approx. 92mm with a diameter of approx. 46mm. Does that mean the shell should be the standard 68/73mm?

Is this what I need? Any additional adapters required?

Measure the shell width, it'll either be 68mm or 73mm.

You will then need to choose the correct option from this link http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/hope-pf46-press-fit-stainless-bottom-bracket/rp-prod118541

and if its a GXP crankset (Spindle will be 24mm on side and 22mm on the other side) you'll need to fit a GXP conversion kit - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/hope-bottom-bracket-truvativ-gxp-converter/rp-prod26899

The BB in the link in your post will fit the shell but its for a crankset with a 30mm spindle (BB30 crankset). If your crankset is GXP then it will not fit.

No confusion needed.

The Hope PF BB is very definitely an upgrade. While a bodge install is quite possible it really should be done with the Hope tool which which is only needed for installing this BB. I'd let a shop do this, personally.

The Hope PF42 BB is Shimano HT2 (24mm). It fits in a 42mm BB shell. It converts to GXP with the wee metal top hat shim on the NDS that Hope sell for the purpose.

The Hope PF46 BB is BB30. It fits in a 46mm BB shell and takes cranks with a 30mm spindle.

PF41 30mm to fit 92mm?

"30mm crank axle version available to suit 89.5, 92, 104.5, 107 and 121mm bottom bracket widths"

http://www.hopetech.com/products/drivetrain/bottom-bracket/

Edit: No guarantees if this is right, plus need a GXP adapter also, and not sure if they work with all Hope BBs.

Or, just get a SRAM GXP BB, £25, job done for another year or two (I get at least two years out of mine). Cheap enough that it's not worth replacing the bearings, just replace the BB.

Thanks guys, although not sure I'm any clearer.

I guess the only way to be certain is to remove the old one and measure it up and speak to CRC (other vendors are available).

I got a shop to do this with my 2011 Zesty. Great upgrade, and definitely worth getting installed properly.

For information, CRC replied to my query:

I can confirm that the 2015 Lapierre Zesty AM 827 features a standard PressFit GXP bottom bracket, so if you click on the below links, these are the parts required and the Hope options would be highly recommended:

Take it to your LBS. Mine would fit components bought from them for free, well worth the difference in price between an inline seller.

Hope BB's are great 🙂

So the question is.... how did you measure a diameter of 46mm?

It's a valid question, as my measurement would suggest i need the PF46, not PF41, but just going by what CRC said. I did mention to them I measure 46mm using vernier calipers on the outside of the bottom bracket "cups".

I have checked a dealer book this morning for your frame and the details CRC have gave you tie up with the info in the dealer book.

Strange yours measure 46mm tho as they definitely should not.

^ Thanks very much for that, puts my mind at rest.

Only difference between the 827 is it's carbon, rest of the range is alu, so unless they difference lies with that??

41mm refers to the internal diameter of the shell with the bearing cups out of the way. The bit of the bearing cup that fits inside the shell is the same diameter (give or take enough to give a decent interference fit), though you won't see this or be able to measure it if the bearing cup is still installed in the frame (I mention this as it's not clear whether you've knocked the bearing cups out yet). The part of the cup that sits outside the shell has a bit of a step to a section with larger diameter to stop you pressing the cup too far into the shell. Have you measured the larger diameter that sits outside the shell, or the diameter that actually fits inside the shell?

^ that makes sense then

Just the outer section, accessible with everything still together.
