I will be out at Lake Garda in August with the lady and have been given a free pass for a day of riding if I can set it up.
A friend has shown me the 601 route http://www.gardamtb.com/tours-Downhill-Monte%20Altissimo,%20601%20trail-1053-1034-0.html and basically I want to make it happen. I will need to hire a bike and return it on the same day and will have a hire car. I can carry my own helmet etc out there.
Has anyone got recommendations of how I can make this happen and hire a half decent 5-6" bike for the job? I am happy to pay for a guide if reasonable and would like to have it setup before I head off.

go to mecki's bar [url= http://www.mecki.com/homepage_eng.htm ]http://www.mecki.com/homepage_eng.htm[/url], a bike shop that does hire bikes and gear, on the main road between torbole and riva del garda on the north end of the lake.
you can also ask there for bike shuttle bus services up to altissimo, or monte tremalzo or other uplift-worthy destinations. you may not be able to secure a shuttle on the day though, there can be a waiting list, so might be best to contact them in advance to reserve a hire bike and shuttle.
there are other bike shops in the area i think but mecki is a firm favourite (especially with the German crowd 🙂 )
