Anyone else here struggling with with that stuff called mud and crap getting into the lever/control under the seat, which causes the lockout to stop working properly?
Anyone got/tried making a protector to keep things clean and working?

Yes, but I normally find that cycling the little lever a few times by hand usually sorts it out. Don't know if your using the rubbish cable outer that came with it, but I found that changing to decent Shimano outer made actuation much easier.
