'Moderning' a retro Kona frame (purists will hate me I know).
Plan is to go SS and use a disc brake adapter on frame (tab and brace welded in the imminent future instead).
Therefore I'll try the P2's that are with the frame (v-brake only) but considering either a carbon fork from China (I might die that's fine), or a modern P2. Issue is I can't find a modern P2. For a rigid SS Steel hardtail will a carbon fork completely bork it's riding? Stealth - does anyone have a P2 was a massive long 230mmish steerer?
Thanks
Someone linked these the other day, not sure of the AC though.

I wish I hadn't sold the P2 (Ahead & disc versions) that I had to go with my old kona frame, they were just 'right' for it.
But yeah, the sky won't fall if you fit something newer and more carboney... "Purist" retro-nerds would have you using 'period correct' threaded headset, quill stem and cantilever brakes do you really want to keep them happy?
Thanks guys
I have an old Kona, with old (V boss only) P2s. It was a great running bike, then put PC31s on which allowed a disc front at least. Also great running -- it's not purist any more having been dropout adjusted but it's a fab blast bike..
Thanks Kcal - Exactly what I was thinking. I just want a fun blast around bike.
Some sh carbon forks will be comfy and light.
Never tried carbon, but I preferred 100mm bouncers on my '98 Lava Dome (over the modern P2s)
Yr Kona, what year? And this thread requires pics 😉
