Kids dropper seat post - what recommendations these days?

[#13529223]

A couple of years back I got two of the kids Brand-x seatposts from CRC (27.2, 70mm, lighter spring).

Middle child is growing and from a fitment point of view I think a 100mm would be more suitable for him.

Any pointers on brands? I've found the KS Leg Si has adjustable air spring, which hopefully means I can reduce the force he needs to push it down. But spendy compared to CRC prices!

Or One Up V2? Buy the 120mm and adjust it down to 100?

Any pointers welcome. He's about 45kg.

Our eldest has graduated to a 150mm one up V2 (30.9 frame so better choice). She is 44Kg and has not problem moving it. Given the lower stack height on the one up I'd not be surprised if you did not even need to shim it down.

I might be overthinking this then 😀

I shim the 27.2mm to 30.9mm at present, but yeah it'll be nice to get a proper size.

You might get lucky then and even be able to go to a 150mm shimmed down to 130. I could only do this with a one up post. A 150mm brand x would hit the seat tube bottle bosses.

The normal Brand X, now Ascend are fine for that kind of weight, my eldest is 44kg and has been on a 100mm Brand-X "normal" post for the last couple of years, once you pass 35kg they work perfectly well.

Echo that. Mine are on 27.2 x 105mm drop Brand X for a while now (moved from old to new bike and shimmed to 31.6). No issues with them being small light - looked back and youngest was coincidentally around 35kg when first using one. No issues compressing it at all.
