First time I have ever attempted this feat on my own. As it was a rear wheel and there were a few things like different size spokes on drive side, that threw a spanner in the works. But its all built and trued.
Must say im very happy that I have managed to do it without getting in a strop and hurling it out the shed window.

I love building wheels! Was taught to do it when i was 17 by a proper old school mechanic/ex-pro and have always loved it. Currently have 2 sets of wheels that I built myself that I ride on and gonna build a third. Real therapeutic and satisfying to build.

Congrats on your first build! Enjoy riding on them 🙂

I did wheel building this week also :-), but with 4/8mm offset rims

Front built symmetrical, rear with 17.5mm offset
Tricky build (For me anyway) but I am happy with the results

I've never really messed with wheels much before. I would get all frustrated turning the wrench the wrong way, so just had the LBS true and build my wheels.

I got a truing stand off of Craigslist last year, so its something that I need to try.

Should I just start by truing a wheel first?

It's very satisfying building a wheel, especially as you will invariably fettle until it's perfectly dished, true and round.
