Guy passed me this morning on my north london commute, on a Rohloff-hub, rigid Thorn in sensible commuter guise (mudguards, lots of lights on even though it was 7:30am) - but the guy was wearing MTB kit including full arm and leg armour. He was pedalling frantically off into the distance.
Freeride commuting? Aggressive street jey-core? It was one of the most bizarre combinations I've seen...

Considering the risks riding about in London, I'd say wearing armour here on these mean streets is possibly more appropriate than when mincing around a trail centre on a 6" travel All Mountain bike....
The obstacles tend to be more mobile here, adding another element of danger.
