Can you not get the train to Orsieres? Probably lots of changes and a long journey though.

It looks like c.2 hours to Martigny; then 2 minutes to jump on the train to Orsieres (0:25); then bus to Champex (0:25); then a bloody long climb (1:30); all for 0:30 of (good) descending. I think this is one that has to be done as part of the Tour...
