[Closed] Is there an alternative to the XT 42t Outer Chainring?

I'm just wandering whether there is a cheaper alternative to a XT 42t outer chainring that will still fit the old Hollowtech II XT chainset that I have on my Ghost AMR 5900 (2011)?

Currenty it has the original Shimano XT 42-32-24 crankset and the outer ring is so worn that when you pedal it slips beneath the chain!

I want to sell the bike as it has been completely unused for the last 3 years. I have just spent £250 on new tyres, a new brake, derailleur, grips, general overall service, and the added cost of an outer chainring (£50 from most places) almost makes selling it unviable! I think I would only get about £500 for it even though it is immaculate.

I was wandering whether a cheaper 42t chainring would fit? something like the Alivio 42t? Any suggestions or help much appreciated.

Thanks

I'm fairly sure I came across a Renthal one to fit Shimano but doubt it could be used as an outer, dunno as don't have Shimano cranks to check BCD on outer, think it's 96mm but not 100% sure.

check CRC for details.

hope this helps

That's potentially useful, I need to investigate (assuming Renthal are cheaper!). Ive just looked up the bolt centre diameter for the Shimano XT (as currently fitted) and the internet says that it is 104mm.

So does this mean that any 42t chainring with 104mm BCD can be used as an alternative to the XT outer-chainring that is currently fitted??

Look for secondhand on here, now that most folk have gone 1x or 2x?

I have some Race Face race rings

Yes.

As long as it's not a singlespeed or Narrow/Wide.
