Just a thought I had today whilst bored. Would there be a market for a bike shop selling last years bikes at obviously reduced prices. I know I always look for last years bikes when I look for a new bike but does anyone think a shop could make a living from selling last years bikes? Alternatively are there any laws or rules against this or does anyone already solely sell old stock?

There are already a couple of shops that advertise predominantly last years bikes. Paul's cycles springs to mind. Paul's don't do all brands available in the uk by any means, but quite a few and very competitive as far as I can see. CRC also buy up old stock and sell on cheap from time to time, f'rinstance recent excellent prices on older Kona, Curtis, Yeti and Rocky Mountain.

Don't know if anyone outside of ebay just does 'old' stock though.

No all bikes cease to function after 12 months... FACT!!!

If you can get on to work it will probably give you the AIDS or turn on you and savage your groin....

Paul's, Duh! It just hit me that bikes are rising in price but the spec is hardly changing. I'd deffinately buy last years bike if it was cheaper.

For a lot of bikes the specs are getting worse.

Some of last years models are better due to a downgrading of spec in order to stay at a specific price point. Orange 5 is a good example. Same price worse spec. Last years model(ex demo) at glentress I saw for 1750. Great price.

Right, i'm off the count the pennies. It's about time Lichfield got a decent bike shop.

Pretty sure Pauls clean up on some brands- they had giants a mates shop couldn't get from the importer. A lot of bikes have dropped in price, most Treks I believe, which might hurt the business model.

Pauls cycles used to just be a clearance place for old bikes from what i could tell but they appear to still do that plus be bona fide dealers for certain brands

bought my reign x from them. great bargain

Rudedog CRC have bought paligap hence all the old konas. Still amazed they've found stuff from 2000 though....
