Got the CX out for the first time in 6 months today and the cranks are stiff. Smooth, but stiff. It was fine when I last rode it.

Is the EBB a write off of will a bit of riding bring it back to life?

An EBB on a UJ?

Resistance training. It'll be fine.

I was under the impression that a standard BB screwed into the eccentric bit? IME, it'll be seized but loosen off with a bit of use for quite some time, then, without warning it's suddenly emergency Union Jack flag and cycling helmet time.

I think Monsieur Spider means External Bottom Bracket.

*light bulb* Aah, right. Well I've managed to extend their lives a bit my carefully levering off the plastic top hat and bearing seal then cleaning, regreasing and freeing off. I've also managed to stab a small screwdriver right into my thumb nail while carrying out said job.

Butter knife is my weapon of choice for prising the plastic top hat off.

You'll need a RG and maybe NB fitted, I'd guess

what type of EBB? _ pretending that will help and I am knowledgeable
Mine is just a shell type thing that an actual BB screws into
the eccentric bit is not really anything that could seize tbh as it has no moving parts- well I may not be able to move it to tighten chain line is that what you mean?

the bearings will be a bit corroded, flip the seal off, flush with GT85 or similar, wipe off excess, leave to dry then wack as much grease in there as you can and you might save it (mine faired similarly after jet washing and leaving, but are ok now)

one of mine died on me and I sent it to BETD/goldtec and they put in really good quality bearings that don't need the plastic insert- been bob on ever since
