I have tried to sell my house and car on Gumtree. The house ad received nothing but spam interest, the car is just getting time wasting interest.
Has anyone found it any use? If not, any ideas where I can sell my car (a very nice, if old, Alfa Romeo 147), without paying extortionate fees?

I prefer preloved, less spam and I've done ok with small items on it.

it is full of stolen stuff, mainly bikes, so i steer well clear of gumtree.

Autotrader or Ebay for the car, I've bought and sold cars on both and had a pretty good experience.
