No one wants to buy my new 6.6 frame so I am going to take the bits off my trusty Uzzi SLX and onto the 6.6 The Uzzi is running a pait of Manitou Minute 140mm travel forks. The 6.6 is supposed to be made for 150-160mm forks.
I spoke to a guy at Rutland yesterday and he suggested running a 190x50mm rear shock (in place of the 200x57) and with the Hope headset, it should be fine with the shorter travel forks.
Any comments? The reason I am using the 140mm forks is the price of 150-160mm travel forks are out of my price range for the moment. The Manitou's are worth nothing much secondhand and I like them.

has the 6.6 got a 1.5 headtube? if so then there is usualy a few 1.5 160mm manitous on ebay for cheap and marzocchi z1's are usualy cheap as well as being pretty good, or sell the uzi frame and minutes to fund 36's/lyric's

190x50 as opposed to 200x57 will also lower the b/b and slacken the head angle as well as shortening the travel, not sure how much though

Which might not be a bad idea with a 6.6, given it has a pretty high BB combined to a not too slack HA.

I think the 6.6 was originally specced around a 145mm Nixon, so it should work ok with a fork like that. Get a headset that has a high stack hight if you want it to be slack.

It does have a 1.5" headtube. Don't want to sell the Uzzi frame as it will go into my collection!
The BB height is high - 13.75" and HA 68.5deg

Running the shorter shock should reduce the travel and slacken the angles off, with the shorter fork in place, the angles should be similar to where they would be with longer fork/shock in place, only difference will be a lower bottom bracket height (possibly down by an inch) so you may clip pedals a little more frequently.

How much will the replacement shock be though?

Btw, the 68.5 degree HA was measured with a 145 degree nixon as far as I'm aware.

So should I stick with the DHX5 air or go for a shorter shock, if the 6.6 was set up with the Nixon's?

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that question. 😉

Try it with the Nixons, if you like the way it rides then leave it, if not try the shorter shock.

That would drop the travel to 147mm, so it would be a reasonable match for a 140mm fork. The BB would drop nearly an inch... Maybe shorter cranks would be an idea whilst you're at it? It's gonna get quite expensive for an experiment!
