Hi,
I searched but not much helpful came up, if I buy a second hand frame from the usa how much tax will I pay when it arrives in the country?
Has anyone bought a second hand frameand had it shipped over here? How much did you pay Tax please?
Not looking to start adebate about rights and wrongs of dodging tax etc, or what the best way around it is, just want to know how much I will be liable for if I went ahead.
Frame would be $1000
Thanks in advance
from memory...
4.7% duty for bike parts
then 20% vat on price including shipping
Important it is parts not a complete bike, as complete bikes attract a higher rate of duty 18% IIRC
that ^ sounds right.
You will alse have to pay the PO there fee for collecting the duty and collect the parcel from a main PO. Postman not allowed to collect money. On the other hand if the seller was to put a price below the current max which used to be $27 then you pay nothing. Also has to write pressy on the import label. Go to the customs site to find what the price has to be to pay no duty VAT and to get it delivered instead of going to PO to collect (charge you 10 pound).
Thank you very much for the info, looks like it's going to be almost as expensive to import a second handone as buy a brand new one.
Cheers for the information
Nevermind the tax...it can be the postage you have to watch out for. The last time I bought a frame from over the pond, the postage was nearly £200. 😯
