My first ever one, one that my club is heavily involved in.
The route is London to Paris and back to London in four days. The route is a long version of the popular ride, about 1000km.
The charity is The Princess Royal trust for carers, i.e folk looking after other folk out of duty unpaid, like a kid looking after their mum.
As it's my first and probably only one I want to do as best I can to get the £500 that you are tasked to get.
Have you any ideas?
I was thinking of riding it on my 1958 fixed wheel road bike as an extra angle. Or is that just daft, I do want to enjoy it as well.
Got a just giving page and linked that to facebook.
What else should I do between now and September?
Do you deal with any corporate customers at work?
Nearly all big businesses now have a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) policy. That will likey have a "giving back" section where they sponsor local events and this kind of thing.
If you do deal with any it could be worth a shot asking them.
For a 1000km ride, I'd want it to be as comfortable as possible, doing it on a vintage fixed wheel could well mean not finishing and that would be no good at all.
How much of the £500 goes to The Princess Royal Trust?
1000km in four days is angle enough - no need to make it miserable by riding a horsehair shirt of a bike.
What else to do? Well I guess including the link to your JG page would be a start...
AFAIK the whole lot. Butlins are heavily behind it as are a few other sponsors. Each rider shells out £275 to ride. That includes event back up, accommodation and food and the obligatory ride jersey. Sponsorship and entry fees do I believe cover costs.
The ride is open to 40 riders and the £500 is a minimum.
I think the idea is that it'll become a yearly event.

Indeed, my trusty Ti would be the ideal ride bike.

I'll check with the mods first.
I wouldn't use that Brooks you had on another thread...
I put mine up without asking. Got a few quid here.
Loads of folk do it - I've never seen a complaint.oldgit - MemberI'll check with the mods first.
The Brooks does seem alright now, straight at least 😐
Okay, but I'll blame you if they moan. And it's very amateur at the moment.

London to Paris in 2 days on a fixed? Ouch. I did Oxford to Paris in about a week on a Giant FCR, but we took it very easy, didn't plan the route beforehand, and stopped for some partying in Brighton on the way.
I think doing it with friends and raising the money/giving to the charity of your choice directly is a better idea. No "minimum sponsorship" and all that. We did it for Plan, an international children's charity.
