....from a Santa Cruz Heckler (2009)??
I am thinking about having a change, not sure why? I have had an SC Heckler for 4 years now and LOVE it (had the older one and now the newer one), but I suppose I just have itchy feet?
I would like to keep the 'All Mountain' option open, i.e. 140mm+ travel on front and 5-6" rear travel.
Would like to keep the frame 'newer', i.e. 2009/2010 - my frame is absolutely MINT and would like the same sort of condition for the new frame.
If you have any pics of your bikes to help encourage me decide - that would be great!
Please help me........ ๐
Love my bikes, SC Superlight and C'fail Prophet but am continually being drawn to the Nukeproof Mega, no idea why... so I do my bit for Brant and continue to do his viral marketing for him...
I'd get a Hemlock personally ๐ But everyone's going to recommend the frame they currently have I guess.
if you love it so much, and its mint condition why replace it?
For the money you spend on a new top end full suss you could probably get a LT hardtail complete bike like an On One or something
Then you have 2 bikes

I do love it - just fancy a change? If I got another MTB my wife would seriously hit the the roof! I had about 3-4 at one point + a roadie, I have scaled down now (I am pretty lucky as my workshop is the spare room in the house, so don't want to push my luck and get kicked out in the cold for having too many bikes!)
Just bought one of these to keep my other bikes company

they've got cheap 575's as well
Whilst I have no problem with people enjoying the building and choosing aspect of a new bike - it's certainly not what I do but that's fine. However, I can't see why you feel the need to change. Your existing bike is up to date, good condition and you can't put a finger on why you want to get rid of it nor have you seen something that's a must have to replace it. Difficult!
If you want the same but different - how about a SC Nickel or Butcher? From what I read, the linkage driven shock gives them quite a different feel.
Have you considered spending the cash on new bits for the existing bike?
I would say spend the money you would blow on a new frame on a day ticket or 20 to the local health spa for the wife and get out and ride your existing bike

Yes I know - I don't know why I want a change, just do? You update your car every now and then, I suppose this is the same sort of feeling.
BUT...the butcher is a good shout! I seen one of those being built when I was in Santa Cruz last year and loved the look of it - will it be much difference though.....best test it and see!
I get your point - to a degree. Normally there's something to grasp onto though, too heavy/light, too much/little travel. Not as good as x, y or z. It just seems odd (to me) to want a change, almost for the sake of change? I get very familiar with exactly how each bike feels, so I wouldn't want to swap bikes unless something was wrong. I tend to buy them new, change the bits as they wear out and ride them until they die. Then get another bike which suits my riding ambitions as they stand at that point.
I read a very favourable review of the Nickel in Dirt Rag and they mentioned the Butcher. I can't seem to find it online unfortunately - only the first impressions http://www.dirtragmag.com/node/62
FWIW, I've only owned 2 cars. Had to get rid of the 1st one (a 23 year old warm hatch) as the wife insisted it wasn't safe. I got rid of the 2nd when I moved abroad.
I'd say go test ride a few other bikes, might help you decide what it is about the Heckler your not getting on with? I had a 2007 Heckler, loved it but never quite gelled with it, if you know what I mean. After trying a few other bikes I found it was the comparatively short front end. I now ride a Cannondale Prophet, same size as the Heckler, but the longer top tube means it feels quite different and this one is a keeper for a good while yet.
