New XT brakes from Rose Bikes for both my Full sus and my Hardtail.
Lighter rear wheel for my full sus (Stans rim on a DT hub probably, already have a front to go on)
New headset bearings for my full sus.

Not very inventive I know, I just have two bikes I absolutely love riding, but both of them could do with a bit of TLC right now...

£500 for a rigid steel frame (or ally) bike for a bit of light singletrack bashing? Mission impossible?

No, I thinks it's possible. I recommended this to a bloke at work, he's made up with it.

Full page linky. http://www.decathlon.co.uk/81-2011-id_8168695.html

edit - lockout Recons.
X7 gears
Hollowtech cranks
Avid Elixir brakes
butted alloy frame, (I assume that's what double thickness means)

I had an 8.2 a few years ago which was similar, loved that bike.

I've got an old Spesh Epic (Brain) and love it but I can't get the Singular Swift out of my head. I want a bike like that but can only afford £500 at the moment and my itch for a second fun bike needs scratching

My last bike cost me £400 about 3 weeks ago and very nice it is too. There's not anything I want for £500 though right now, if I'm honest.

Ah right, so you want a rigid, single speed, steel-is-real MTB. Well, Decathlon may still fulfill your dream.

I really want a genesis fortitude but not got the funds.
But I have seen that ridge back do something similar but much cheaper.
It's called a dual track and can be had for £499.
Not quite a 29er but almost.

A 14/15 inch Kona Lisa 120 of CRC for my missus (she' a short arse)... freaking bargain from CRC. Then I'd upgrade the shitty forks with some 140mm bolt through's (if they don't wreck the geo), tyres and brakes when she got better, the rear shocks not bad for the price (Monarch 3.1).

Two carbon risers when I can find what I like and then another day down with Jedi. My three bikes are pretty much how I want them but I'm not sure my riding is.
