or

http://www.kinesisbikes.co.uk/bikes/racelight/t2 but in the LBS this one has upgraded wheels (Tiagra/Mavic open pro) and Tyres (Conti Gatorskins)

Which is best?

Personally I would go for the Tk3 as it has a tapered headset, makes the whole fork assembly feel stiffer for braking and steering. The wheels are absolutely fine, R501's are a bomb proof wheelset.

Are Tiagra hubs on Mavic Open Pro an upgrade over R501 wheels worth £235 i.e. the difference between the rrp's of the bikes?

Or a £170 difference if its the carbon forked T2?

Assuming the Tk3 is reduced to the price of the T2, it doesn't seem like much of an upgrade on the T2 to me, so I'd still go with the Tk3.

Yes, the two bikes above are the same price (£995) but the T2 has the upgrades mentioned.

I didn't want to spend anymore, I'm stretching Mrs K's patience as it is.

Oh I see, sorry.
I think the advice to get the newer frame is the way to go, although opinions of the R500's seem to vary.

Dilemma, mmmmm. Mind you, if you read some wheel building websites, Open Pros don't get much love these days either.

I'd ignore the wheelset and go for the better frame.

I had R-550's for years with no issues or desire to upgrade. On that basis I'd go with the more bling frame.

I'm puzzled why everyone thinks the grey is best...?

I have a T2. I wish I'd got a TK2, its much lighter. I'd get the better frame, use the wheels for a but then sell them and upgrade while they were still in good condition.

A Defy 3 2013 (alu). It has Sora but with paddles which is reportedly fairly good, but more importantly the list of free things (including the pre-req guards, and pedals) was so enormous from Pedal On I got everything I need to ride in winter out of the box and lots lots more for £679* - lifetime frame warranty too.

Its the black one, my rational being that it looks not disimilar to my matt carbon Bianchi to the casual (potentially thieving) on-looker as I roll it out the front gate to go for a ride gicing the illusion of 1 bike.

The red "3" looks ghastly anyway IMO

* I lost £400 from my winter bike budget as the car Rad blew up 2 weeks ago, hence the attraction of the price point.

Open Pro rims are to good for budget Tiagra hubs ,rather an odd build
