Yes, you, Rubens. Purveyors of Oakley niceness.

If you don't have an item in stock, don't just leave an order in your "tracking" system saying it's "Processing". How about some sort of communication to the customer (You know, the one who pays the bills) saying, "Sorry, we haven't got that" rather than having the customer wade through your stupidly useless contact function on your website.

On the other hand, big props, woops and other congratulatory noises to the fine folks at Cyclestore.co.uk for pronto speedy email responses on the same subject which were most helpful. They shall be receiving a chunk of my hard earned today!

(I know, a rubbish rant, sorry.)

Sort of. Fancied a nice new lens for my Pro-M and M Frames. Would usually have gone to a proper shop, but holiday/work travel meant I tried the interwebular route instead.

There's too much of this sort of thing with online retailers. There's a big difference between 'we've got it' and 'we can get it'

In this case, after I eventually tracked them down, the reply was essentially "Even though it's still on our site, we can't get it. Soz"

Dischuffed.

...and another thing. Could everyone (UK sites selling to the UK) shows their prices including VAT - if you don't and VAT only appears at the checkout stage, it's a bit of a poor show, just to get you at the low price range in price comparison websites. The number of baskets I've abandoned because of this is frustratingly high

yeah, I've noticed a couple of places recently that apparently 'stock' Madison's entire back catalogue, and then act affronted if you phone them to double check they actually have it - "What does the website say?" etc...

Ian -they use supplier integration software so they show what the supplier has 'as their own'.

This can work ok if you are on line only and you are operating as a JIT business and all delivery times work well etc.

Impossible to use if you are brick and web like us where people regularly check what we have and come in or order for pick up in store.

Make sense.

personally i think it's quite misleading to suggest you have stuff in your premises that you don't. We make balls ups occassionally, sometimes the system says we have one and things like shoplifting/admin/sales errors mean we don't. oops.

Still seems a bit dis-honest, if I want something ordered from the supplier I'll go to one of my friendly local LBSs, I shop online if I need/want something obscure, fast.

On which note, I was surprised and highly suspiscious to see Petra Cycles advertising the precise L/H cone I needed for my 2006 XTR hubs. I was even more surprised after ordering it that it turned up two days later!
