[#4285563]

So I want a 'do it all' on/off road touring 29er
light (nice steel or Ti preferably)
rohloff dropouts.. sliding or EBB either is fine.
rack brazeons , mudguard mounts, 2x bottle cages
fit 100-120mm fork
decent tire clearance (to fit 2.3 ish tyres)
been looking around but nothing fits all these criteria
lots of rohloff Ti 29ers but nothing with mounts etc for touring
any ideas???
cheers
Jim

Have a look on fatbirds site, I think the van nics have you covered.

Cheers.

There's a Van Nicholas Redwood 29er that has horizontal dropouts - and all the braze-ons. You might struggle with a 2.3" tyre though.

http://vannicholas.com/52/Redwood_29er/bike.aspx

Or forget your rack/mudguard braze-ons and go for a Ti El Mariachi (which is what I'm doing). Handlebar roll and seatpack (possible frame-bag) will replace panniers which I find a problem on narrow, heather-lined, singletrack.

Or get on to ebay.com and get one sent over from Taiwan built to your requirements.

Speak to Gary @ Curtis bikes, he can make it along with Brian Curtis himself

The 2013 model will have the Alternator dropouts which are on the steel ones this year - so ideal for your Rohloff.

Or try Justin Burls. Again, he can design and make you pretty much anything you want.

Hi Jim
I couldn't find what i wanted off the shelf either.
Contact Matt @ 18 bikes. He recently made me a 853 steel touring MTB.
I idea is that i can run it as either a off road tourer with 100mm forks and frame bags or as an on road tourer with a rigid fork, rear rack and panniers.
The spec is as your wish list but for 26" wheels. It features Interchangable pivoting dropouts so i can run a Rohloff or derailieur gears but don't need a EBB. Chainstay mounted disc, rack mounts, 3 bottle cages, mudguard mounts, custom cable routing and clearance for 2.25" tyres. There are some pics on their flicker page, Hope this helps, Mark

Singular Gryphon? We're just building up a demo bike with 29's and an alfine as a heavy duty tourer

Yes - the 2013 El Mar ti has swinging dropouts but no braze-ons.

You might consider a Fargo ti if you decide to fit proper gears?

Not ti, but my voodoo bokor 29er ticks most of the other boxes... cheap too.

I would get a Salsa Fargo. I think it would be the ultimate tourer.

Contact Chris at Qoroz. Ti bike specialists. I have their 29er and I know my friend Graham has one with Rohloff dropouts... http://www.qoroz.com/mountain-won-29er/

I do everything on mine. Bike packing, XC racing and endurance racing. It does it all very very well! It even went down the downhill run at Cwmcarn the other day 🙂
