.....and I'm sat here at work and the OCD is killing me ๐Ÿ™‚

Muddy manky sloppy ride, which would normally involve getting home with bike on roof about 11, a quick hose down, dry and relube, which takes all of 15 mins max. Last night however was blowing a gale and driving rain, so it went straight in the garage where it forlornly sits now, in a mud clagged state !

Will I now be on Santa's naughty list ???? ๐Ÿ™‚

Totally disgraceful!

OCD = 1.5 hours cleaning at least.

Your chain will be rusty by the time you get home.

Just poke the dry mud with a screwdriver next time you see it. It'll be caked within seconds on the next ride and all the lube ground off the chain within 100m.

Mine was put away partially clean as it was on the rof rack when we drove through heavy rain! Must clean it properly later ๐Ÿ™‚

Bikes hate water. The mud will dry hard and create a protective layer. Ride as is and further layers shall build, increasing the effectiveness. This will preserve your pride and joy as long as you don't disrupt the process.

Mine doesn't get washed all winter other than chain and stantions. Let it dry knock the worst off and re-lube, ride repeat.

What is the point in winter of minting it who's looking.

Mine was hosed down after yesterdays ride, but still muddy from the previous night. Never bother re-lubing after a wash.

Ha ha ha. You'd have a fit if you looked at the bikes in my garage. I spend 7 months constantly washing the hire fleet. The last thing I want to do at home is wash more bikes!

The time spent washing could be spent riding, which is what the bike is for surely?

My rigid winter (and summer family bimble) bike has been washed twice since the start of October. Once to remove a big lump of dog egg, the other so that I could find the worn out BB I needed to replace...

Mine gets washed once a week, but it only takes an hour. I love shiny looking bikes.
Much easier to spot potential issues, loose bits, wonky bits, worn bits when you can actually see them and the act of cleaning it means you tend to look more closely at it too.

Oh no! This thread has just reminded me that my bike is still filthy after Saturday's night ride. I have got so overloaded with Christmas crap I totally forgot. I am off now this minute but I think the chain will be a pile of rust crumbs

If you can't commit to cleaning it, you don't deserve to be riding it.

Do think of me slogging my way across the moor whilst you work through your OCD ๐Ÿ™‚

Pffft! I'f you've got the time to clean it you could have had a longer ride!

mine are all filthy, they will stay filthy, the clumps will dry and fall off the moving bits in due course...

Put mine away filthy after Wednesday's ride out as I was starving when I got in. Wasn't a problem as today's monsoon round Macc Forest and the rivers running down Charity, along Danebower and Cumberland have washed 99% of it off. Quick brush, dry and lube, now it's ready for Boxing Day ๐Ÿ™‚

I think I've cleaned my Spitfire three times* in two years, so on average every 600 off-road miles. It's meant to be 'stealth black' but it's actually 'camo brown'...

* I clean and lube the chain every few rides and the stanchions and shock more often still.

There was a recent thread about how people clean their bikes but I was too embarrassed to share mine for fear of ridicule, all my riding mates laugh at me constantly for having a "Showroom condition" bike in all weather, but as it is Christmas eve and I have had a couple here is a brief description, first hose the worst off, then hose and soft brush, then Muc off and more soft brush, toothbrush for the harder to reach bits, good rinse and carry to the garage to avoid getting tyres dirty, spray chain with GT85 to rid any water, then turn dehumidifier on and leave in the heated, insulated garage until totally dry, then spray more GT85 on some kitchen roll and wipe it over everywhere (apart from discs obviously) bike looks Spankin gorgeous and makes me smile, it doesn't make me go any quicker but I don't like leaving it dirty, even my lbs commented on how nice it looked after a year of hooning, most recent example was cleaning it at 01.15 after a night ride with my head torch on, (neighbours) think I am a loon but it keeps me happy.

Happy Christmas

Yeh was a wee bit mental tonight, worst bit was the last 2 miles from Fenwick to killie. Still gives an excuse for a wee whisky tonight. Back on it tomorrow.

In my experience you are more likely to ride then if you keep on top of cleaning as your bikes are always ready to go. It's a pain sometimes but they do run better.

Err, nope. Grabbed my dirty fatbike out the garage this morning and did 28km. Given the size of some of the puddles, it may even be cleaner now than when I left.

I did 68k today on the full suspension bike on (often) muddy trails. I hope the mud didn't do too much damage, I think that sort of distance is okay in summer but its hard on the bike in Winter.
