Jump gulley at Swinley, smacked my head into the floor and knocked myself out. Big big thanks to the lads that helped me, I have no memory of what happened and was out cold for a bit from what I have been told.
I do have a smashed helmet, knackered knee and a very black eye though and an angry wife.
But can't say thanks enough to the lads that picked me up.
Pics of injuries please 😛
crikey. sounds nasty. Glad you are ok, have you been checked by docs ? I smacked my head into the floor once by making a hash up of a jump. I was on my own and walking around afterwards feeling like I'd been punched by Mike Tyson.
Kev

[TJ]It's the helmet that caused it, all those rotational forces[/TJ]
😉
Sorry, but someone had to say it!
Glad to hear you're basically OK, get well soon.
Drac - MemberOooh that's why we were them.
[s]were[/s] wear 🙄
Hmmmm, I dont wear a helmet, have never hit my head, BUT do suffer from all of the above.
Do you think if I deliberately fell on my head while wearing one it could somehow reverse the symptoms? 🙂
(glad you're awright tiger, better luck next time!)
why is your wife angry?
He's broken his helmet and it's Saturday night.
why is your wife angry?
She is 9 months up the duff tomorrow is her due date and I've been told not to drive for 24hrs 😐

So your wife punched you then.
Just glad youre ok and wearing a helmet however its spelt, dont forget the crash replacement policy on your helmet a new one half price usually.
dont forget the crash replacement policy
Thanks, I didn't know about that, I've just checked the website and it needs to be under 3 years old.
I think the Helmet is well over 3 years old more like 13 years old.
What's a good helmet then?
Giro E2
good luck with the little un!
looks like that took a direct impact.
Honestly wouldn't have fancied your chances if that had been your head.
I had a crash today as well.
But mine is rubbish compared to yours.
I failed in my effort to do a prolonged track stand at a set of
traffic lights
Being clipped in I had a really slow mo, clipped in crash in front of a line of traffic. Grazed my elbow and shoulder, and hurt my pride.
I am a 'tard. Teach me to buy a road bike.
they don't make the giro E2 any more, it's been replaced by the Atmos.
If i were you i'd be looking at a Giro Hex or Xen.
Glad you're ok though.

You're supposed to change them more regularly than that! They deteriorate in UV light and after a few years of use don't offer the same level of protection as when new. After 13 years I expect it was like an eggshell
*TJ*
If the helmet cracked it didn't absorb the impact. It should crush to do that.
If it's that old, it'll have degraded through UV light and so wouldn't work.

Glad you're (relatively) ok. Good luck with the baby,
I had a big one today. High-sided after getting a berm a bit wrong and landed on a tree root with my right side. I know have an epic bruise and a swelling that looks not quite so. Docs for me on Monday I think.
Good luck with the baby!
spooky, had my first fall in ages today.
came down a steepish bit of st to Cathedral quarry (cave) and at bottom unclipped to check map, except one side didn't unclip and i toppled over, problem was that i had stopped on the edge of a 4' wall. landed on my left temple and expected to be ko'd, but not...
my Giro E2 has a nice big crack in it.
Are you sure they don't make them anymore?
Ah E2 replaced by ATHLON

As this seems to have reserected itself. Due to amnesia (i've lost about an hour and I have no memory of the crash) I had to have a CaT scan.
Very wierd! you go into a plastic tunnel and it kinda spins round your head.
Body was very very sore today, still no baby
Fancy'in a new Xen 🙂
I've always fancied a go on a cat scan, just to have a look what's inside like 😀
I know, I really wanted a print out of my brain, but as it was A&E and they seemed busy with really injured people asking for a printout seemed a bit selfish.
I've always fancied a go on a cat scan, just to have a look what's inside like
It's really boring. You lie on a slab, and the whole thing moves slowly into the 'tunnel'. It's just like being inside a big washing machine, but without spinning round.
You can get a copy of the scan images on a CD. You'll need to fill out a form, and pay a few quid. It'll only work on a PC, as the CD will include software that you'll need to view the images.
I had a sinus scan done a few months ago; CD cost £25 from St. Barts. Quite interesting actually. Mind you, there appeared to be just a large void, where my brain is meant to be... 😯
